Origin

Professor Ching-Min Tsai, the founding Chair of the Department of Biotechnology (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”), during his tenure as an Adjunct Chair Professor, donated NTD 300,000 annually to establish the SYNMOSA Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as “the Scholarship”).


Purpose

The Scholarship aims to encourage outstanding students to pursue graduate studies in the Department and to promote undergraduate participation in research projects.


Selection and Award Guidelines

  1. Each master’s student admitted to the Department through entrance examination or screening is awarded NTD 20,000 per academic year, issued in installments, with a maximum total of NTD 40,000.

  2. Undergraduate students who achieve 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Department’s annual research project competition will receive NTD 3,000, 2,000, and 1,000, respectively.

  3. In special circumstances, the scholarship amount may be adjusted but shall not exceed the limit specified in item (2).


Fund Management

The Scholarship Fund is jointly managed by the Department Scholarship Committee and the Department Office. All expenditures shall be reported during Department Affairs Meetings. The Scholarship will be discontinued once the fund is fully expended.


Implementation

These regulations were approved by the Department Affairs Meeting of the Department of Biotechnology and took effect from Academic Year 2012 (101 AY). Any future amendments shall follow the same procedure.
